Makes: 6 naan breads
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
1 tsp instant yeast
3 tbsp plain yogurt
2 tbsp oil or melted butter
¾ cup warm water
Extra melted butter for brushing
Optional: minced garlic and chopped cilantro
first combine 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, and 1 tsp instant yeast in a large mixing bowl
add 3 tbsp plain yogurt, 2 tbsp oil or melted butter, and ¾ cup warm water before mixing into a dough
knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth, soft, and elastic
cover the bowl and leave the dough to rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size
once risen, divide the dough into 6 equal pieces
roll each piece into an oval or teardrop shape around ½ cm thick
heat a frying pan over high heat with no oil
place one naan into the hot dry pan and cook for about 1 minute until bubbles form and brown spots appear underneath
flip the naan and cook for another minute until the second side is golden and cooked through
repeat with the remaining dough pieces
brush each naan generously with melted butter while still warm
for garlic naan, mix minced garlic and parsley into the melted butter before brushing
serve immediately with my pork and chickpea curry (i hope!!)
